In response to the decision by Cambridge Assessment International Examinations to withdraw the Cambridge Pre-U qualification, Mike Buchanan, Executive Director of HMC, said:, 11/8/2019  · A post-16 qualification that was popular with England’s private schools is to be scrapped, the exam board that administers it has said. Cambridge Assessment International Education has announced it will administer its Pre-U qualification, an alternative to A-levels, for the last time in 2023, with a last re-sit available in June 2024.


Cambridge Pre-U courses are linear, meaning that they are assessed via examinations at the end of the two year course. Achievement is reported on a scale of nine grades: D1 (Distinction 1), D2, D3, M1 (Merit 1), M2, M3, P1 (Pass 1), P2, P3.


The Cambridge Pre-U is a school leaving qualification from Cambridge Assessment International Education that is an alternative to the current A Level qualification. It is principally aimed at students aged 16–19, and has recognition for university entrance. Pre-U grades are benchmarked to A-level standards. The Pre-U D3 is the equivalent to an A grade A level two grades beyond that, the D2 and D1, extend the range to reward high achievers.
