Take out the cotter key on the first clutch finger and give the set screw one-half to one complete turn to the right with a screw-driver. Do the same to the other finger set screws. But be sure to give each the same number of turns and don’t forget to replace the cotter key.


8/19/2017  · There are two ways to release the clutch on a Model T Ford when all is adjusted properly. The first way is to pull the parking brake lever back. Moving the brake lever back 1/2 way will place the transmission in “neutral”, i.e. the clutch is disengaged, yet the low pedal and reverse pedal can be used to move the car forward or to back up.


The gap guage is used to adjust the three screws for the clutch fingers. You use the guage next to the finger when you adjust the set screw to get even preshure on the clutch disc. The length of the guage is the distance that the tail shaft flange to the clutch shift collar.

Measure the clutch spring with a ruler until it measures 2 inches compressed. The book suggests 2 1/8 inches I like to, haven’t had any problems. Continue until all the clutch fingers have been adjusted this way and the spring measures 2 inches, replace ALL the cotter keys, remove surgical packing and seal the tranny.
